ledger wallet desktop mobile applications release crypto

The king of cryptocurrency hardware wallets one step closer to establishing the leading position in the industry.

Everyone involved knows the stakes and we all understand the importance of security, especially when it comes to our crypto. Hardware wallets are the best way to store cryptocurrency because they offer the highest level of security, and if you have more than a bit of money in cryptocurrencies, chances are you’ve heard about Ledger wallets.

Ledger Nano S requires physical press of a button in order to ‘send transaction’. This cannot be skipped by the hacker that gained control of your PC with hardware wallet connected. It requires PIN code in case you lose your wallet. After three incorrect guesses, the device will wipe itself. It stores your private keys in cold storage - offline - which means they will never be exposed to the internet & are extremely secure. This thing cannot be tampered with, and is basically a safe.

Today, we are excited to announce the upcoming availability of our new generation Ledger Wallet application, built natively for desktop and mobile, gathering all cryptocurrencies in a single, unified place. This app will be available on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS and won’t require Google Chrome or Chromium anymore,” the official website says.

The app will be built for native desktop application, meaning Windows, macOS and Linux, and mobile application version afterwards, both Android and iOS.

I remember it felt amazing when I figured out my Ledger was supporting NEO, Ripple and Stellar, not just the Ethereum. Now it’s getting even better.

Applications will support multi currencies, with more than 23 cryptos, including Bitcoin, Ethereum and other altcoins. It will also support multi devices - Ledger Nano S and Ledger Blue.

Some other features included in the announcement are:

  1. Read only consultation of accounts without device (protected by optional password)
  2. Dashboard view of all assets
  3. Counter values: choice of currency & exchanges
  4. Send, receive, account balances & history
  5. Confirmation before sending funds
  6. On device verification of the receive address
  7. Faster account synchronisation engine

Soon after the desktop version release, we can expect the mobile app for Android and iOS.

You will be able to install or uninstall apps on Ledger Nano S automatically to smoothly manage a non limited number of cryptos on one device. It will come with a third party app integration to buy and sell cryptocurrency, exchanges and swaps, and support for over 100 cryptocurrencies, all from your phone.

It will also include:

  1. Ethereum ERC20 tokens & contract management
  2. Transaction tags & notes
  3. Generate more than one new address
  4. Spotlight search

Sounds awesome, right?

Besides that, Ledger is working on a new version of the Ledger Manager platform, and they plan for the new version to highly improve user experience by bringing a lot of new features such as device information, firmware and apps updates, quick overview of installed currencies, categories, 3rd party apps.

We’ll soon be announcing availability of the Ledger Wallet application. We’ll first release the desktop version during Q2 2018 and then focus on the mobile version Q3 2018. The new version of the Ledger Manager is also expected for Q2 2018. Stay tuned!
